In 1996, Blair completed the Certificate and Higher Certificate at the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, which is based in London. He completed the Graduate Diploma in Business (Marketing) at Edith Cowan University in 1999 and the two year Diploma in Wine and Spirits (Wine and Spirit Education Trust – London) in 2000.
In 2005 he was accepted as an Associate Member of the Institute of Wines & Spirits and entitled to use the distinctive letters AIWS.
Blair is currently the Marketing Manager for The Fogarty Wine Group which comprises; Millbrook Winery (Perth Hills), Lakes Folly (Hunter Valley) and Deep Woods Estate (Margaret River). Millbrook is based in the southern Perth Hills, 50 minutes from Perth, Lakes Folly is an Australian icon winery in the heart of the Hunter Valley and Deep Woods is situated at the northern end of the Margaret River wine region. Blair is responsible for all domestic sales and marketing for the group and manages exports in Asia, including Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Mainland China and Malaysia. He is responsible for the marketing of the award winning restaurant at Millbrook Winery as well as organising wine events for the Millbrook Cellar Club.
Prior to working at Millbrook, Blair was the manager of the Wine Education Centre, the educational arm of the Wine Industry Association of WA (WIAWA) where he was responsible for coordinating wine courses at the Claremont centre and developing new markets for wine education including corporate wine education. He is currently one of the senior lecturers at the centre.
In 2002 and 2003 Blair was a sessional lecturer at Curtin University in Sensory Evaluation 202, a second year Oenology and Viticulture unit.
Blair has judged at a number of wine shows including the Swan Valley and Geographe Wine Shows.
He is a current member of the Scoop magazine tasting panel that meets every quarter to judge wines for inclusion into the Food and Drink section of the magazine.
Blair is the wine reviewer for ABC 720 radio – ‘Afternoons with Gillian’. He can be heard fortnightly on Thursday between 2.30pm and 3pm. All reviews will be published on the full bottle website www.fullbottle.net.au
In 2007 Blair was awarded the Court Wine Bar/Wine Press Club Media Award for contribution to the WA wine industry through the work with ABC 720 radio.
